Games Night on Friday.... I need to figure out what to set up -- we keep getting big groups (single games are not easy) or small groups (medium sized games are too complex).
What are some simple games that are fun?
3/11/10 11:05 pm
Okay, in celebration of nothing in particular, we will be diverting our normal Games Night to Sushi Night! Yes, we will be playing such amazing games as "what is that", "are you sure that is fish", "how much sake comes in one of the big bottles", and "I can't believe I ate so much"!
We'll start at the standard place (Sapporo), but we are going to monkey a bit with the time (7:45pm). Why? Because it's a Friday, and they've gone under new management, so we don't know how good they are anymore. If they're busy we can wait a bit to get a good table, or we can go somewhere else. If you are going to come, let us know and we'll save you a seat! So, the procedure? Meet at our house by 7:30, or there at some point, and let's eat!
Sapporo is at 910 Marietta Hwy, Roswell GA 30075. They serve sushi/sashimi, soup, teppanyaki/hibachi, tempura, and I'm sure a few other things I don't remember.
Google Maps -- get directions from here!.
Will you join us? Comment and let me know!

Nobody scheduled this with me, dammit.

Pics are up from Cardboard*Con 1! I was glad to be the Guest of Honor this year, and I promise we'll set up an autograph table for those that missed out when we get back together for CC2.
Here's the link for the few pics I took! http://www.flickr.com/photos/david_stabler/sets/72157623569531810/

Off to walk backward into this good night. And, to buy spray paint, I think.

I keep seeing NYE and read it as New York Eve... and, with Times Square being the big festival time here, it seems fitting if annoying for everyone in the good parts of the country. :)
It was a quiet evening in for us, with the exception that I had to take the cell phone away from the middle child who was making calls to her friends instead of sleeping like she said she was... We'll see about next year if she wants to stay up late. No fireworks, no firearms, no photography... just sitting around, watching Zombie Clark and some guy in a rally car trying to creatively kill himself, then to bed and eventual quiet.
Not a bad way to send 2009 into the history books.

I wanna upgrade my lenses -- anyone want to buy a slightly used 70-200mm f/4L Canon lens? I've had it a few months, but I've reached some limitations and need to get something that does more of what I need, so I am putting this one out there to try to recover some of my costs....

I don't get it.
Part of my way of trying to understand the world is to attempt to get at the heart of things, so I know what I can accept and what I shouldn't. I want truth over spin, facts over philosophies, the tangible over faith. I know that puts me square in the Thomas camp, but it doesn't deny me the ability to believe in things unseen -- just that I'd PREFER to have things clear when I can, and I know the limit between that view and the one where my faith lives.
So, I often do a bit of research when I hear the same spin given over and over. Or, when I know I'm not all that good at it, I ask elfgirl do poke at the facts a bit because she's a genius when it comes to that sort of thing. She knows me well enough now that if I bring up something with a hint of controversy she'll go do some due-diligence just to make conversation later. She's good like that.
I just don't understand how the rest of the world can live without that interest in the core of their world. Maybe they'd be happier if they had their own elfgirl, but I doubt it. There is something to being a follower, a herd member, that is comforting to the masses, and so they don't ask "is that really true" of their pundits. And they lose out so much as a result.
Am I alone?

As it currently stands, as of 31 Dec I will no longer be employed with my current company. If all goes well I'll have something else lined up, and maybe at the same facility as a contractor, or maybe in a different group, division, etc, but I now have an interesting holiday to spend working on new opportunities.
So, what's up with you?
